Early Childhood Curriculum (Ages 3-6)

At Bossier Christian Academy, our Montessori early childhood classroom serves as a nurturing “house” for children, where they choose their work from self-correcting materials displayed on open shelves.

Over time, children develop into a “normalized community” characterized by high concentration and minimal interruptions. This process, known as normalization, helps children transition from being undisciplined and distracted to self-disciplined and focused through engaging work in a prepared environment.

The Prepared Environment

Our Montessori classroom is organized into five distinct areas:

1. Practical Life:

  • Enhances task organization and cognitive order.

  • Includes care of self, care of the environment, exercises of grace and courtesy, and coordination of physical movement.

2. Sensorial:

  • Enables the child to order, classify, and describe sensory impressions.

  • Focuses on attributes such as length, width, temperature, mass, color, and pitch.

3. Mathematics:

  • Uses manipulative materials to internalize concepts of number, symbol, sequence, operations, and memorization of basic facts.

4. Language Arts:

  • Encompasses oral language development, written expression, reading, grammar study, creative dramatics, and children’s literature.

  • Develops basic skills in writing and reading through sandpaper letters, moveable alphabets, and various presentations.

5. Cultural Activities:

  • Introduces basics in geography, history, and life sciences.

  • Integrates music, art, and movement education.

Holistic Development

Our early childhood environment unifies the psychosocial, physical, and academic aspects of the child. The primary objective is to provide students with a solid foundation that fosters:

• A positive attitude toward school

• Inner security and a sense of order

• Pride in the physical environment

• Abiding curiosity and intense concentration

• Habits of initiative and persistence

• The ability to make decisions

• Self-discipline

• A sense of responsibility to the class, school, and community

This foundation equips children with the skills and knowledge necessary for continued academic success and personal growth throughout their school career.
